Hazrat Hossain Ali Fakir Mujaddedi (R.A.): The Complete Biography of the Spiritual Sun of Sonargaon
Birth and Childhood: Sowing the Seeds in the Soil of Sonargaon (1952)
Hazrat Hossain Ali Fakir Mujaddedi (R.A.) was born on July 15, 1952, in the village of Habipur in the historic Sonargaon Upazila of the Narayanganj District, Bangladesh, to a noble and devout Muslim family. He was the only son and the cherished darling of his parents, Maulvi Md. Nayeb Ali Pradhan and Mosammat Chefaton Nessa Begum. This virtuous couple raised him with immense affection, care, and strong religious values.
From an early age, he was extraordinarily gifted, deeply thoughtful, and very close to the common people. In his childhood, his character displayed a tendency towards simple living, sincerity, a commitment to humanitarian service, and religious solemnity. The seeds of his deep connection and affection for the land and people of Sonargaon were sown during this period.
Educational Life: The Dual Stream of Institutional Excellence and Spiritual Quest
Fakir Mujaddedi (R.A.)’s education and development flowed in two parallel streams: achieving excellence in traditional education and delving deep into spiritual knowledge.
- 1. Foundation of Primary and Religious Education:
His education began at home in a religious atmosphere. He received his initial religious instruction from his parents’ simple and beautiful life philosophy and from local mosque Imams and religious teachers. He delved into the recitation of the Quran, the fundamental knowledge of Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), and the rules of Salat (prayer) and Sawm (fasting) in his childhood. This foundation later established an unshakeable base for his spiritual pursuit. - 2. Brilliant Institutional Education:
His institutional education was marked by enviable success. In 1968, he passed the SSC (Secondary School Certificate) from Mograpara High School in Sonargaon with a First Division, which caused a stir locally. In 1970, he passed the HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) from Dhaka College (Government) with a First Division, including two distinction marks (very high scores), a testament to his intellect. He enrolled in Dhaka University for higher studies, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree (B.Com Honours) from the Faculty of Commerce and later a Master’s degree in Finance. This higher education helped him understand the complexities of the modern world and connect with people from various strata of society. - 3. The Quest for Spiritual Knowledge and the Start of Deeper Study:
His life took a profound turn from the final year of university (around 1974). Alongside his institutional education, a strong attraction and inquiry towards the spiritual world arose. He began deep study not only of the Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, and Islamic history but also of cosmology (the mystery of the universe), somatic principles, philosophy, and especially the various levels and stations (Mokamat) of Tawhid (the Oneness of God). Ancient and modern texts on Tasawwuf (Sufism) were his constant companions. Before being initiated into a specific Tariqa (spiritual path), he expanded and refined his worldview by mingling, having deep discussions, and exchanging knowledge with people of various philosophies, doctrines, and Aqeedah (systems of belief). This open-minded exploration was an essential preparatory phase for his spiritual journey.
This path was extremely arduous. He acquired knowledge through diligence, perseverance, and tireless effort. His family environment was very favorable and conducive to this pursuit. His parents gave him full support in his spiritual practice, even making many sacrifices and enduring hardships for it. On this difficult path of spiritual discipline, his elder sister, Mrs. Khadija Begum, and brother-in-law, Maulvi Md. Almas Ali Sahib, played a very important role. They provided not only moral support but also necessary financial assistance and continuous encouragement, helping him move forward.
The Difficult Path of Spiritual Discipline: Perfection in the Murshid’s Company
Hossain Ali’s spiritual journey was as severe and dedicated as asceticism.
- 1. Initial Spiritual Exercises (Riyazat-Mujahada):
In the first stage of spiritual purification (Tazkiya) and advancement, he began extremely rigorous practices. His daily routine included keeping Nafl fasts (voluntary fasts) almost all year round, engaging in the Tahajjud prayer late at night, and continuous Zikr-Azkar (remembrance of Allah). He faithfully followed the guidance of the famous book ‘Ghuniyatut Talibeen’ written by the great Sufi master Hazrat Abdul Qadir Gilani (R.A.). Reciting specific Awrad Kalam (special phrases for Zikr) was his regular devotional practice. - 2. Attaining the Murshid’s Company: Initiation into the Naqshbandiyya Mujaddidiyya Tariqa:
The most important and concluding chapter of his spiritual journey began upon attaining the company of the Pir-o-Murshid (spiritual guide) of the holy Enayetpur Darbar Sharif, which founded the Naqshbandiyya Mujaddidiyya Tariqa, the great reformer Hazrat Mawlana Shah Sufi Khwaja Mojammel Huq Shamlibagi Enayetpuri (R.A.). He was attracted by Shamlibagi Huzur’s profound knowledge, Ruhaniyyat (spiritual power), and fatherly affection, and soon became a beloved disciple. He accepted the Pir’s blessings, advice, and every instruction with utmost affection and implemented them in his life. Under the spiritual instruction of Khwaja Enayetpuri (R.A.), he took Bay’at (initiation) into the Naqshbandiyya Mujaddidiyya Tariqa directly from Shamlibagi Huzur. - 3. Exile to Saudi Arabia under the Murshid’s Command:
Under the special instruction of his Murshid Qibla, he spent a valuable and difficult period of his life in exile in Saudi Arabia. This time was extremely important for his self-purification, testing of patience, and spiritual maturity. This isolation gave him the opportunity to be self-absorbed and prepare for the great responsibilities of the future. - 4. Holy Hajj and Umrah:
He performed Umrah and Hajj in 1987 and 1988, respectively. His visit to the holy Makkah and Medina further strengthened and deepened his sincere love for the Prophet Karim (S.) (Ishqe Rasool) and his profound respect for the Ahl al-Bayt (Prophet’s household). This experience gave a new dimension to his spiritual consciousness. - 5. Commencement of Writing: Expansion of Spiritual Knowledge:
Under the special inspiration and instruction of his Murshid, he began writing regularly from the Hijri year 1407 (1986/87 CE). This writing later became the main medium for spreading his thoughts, spiritual knowledge, and Sufi philosophy globally.

This was the highest recognition of spiritual succession. Concurrently, he was entrusted with the responsibility of the Sonargaon Darbar Sharif. This historic event was published on October 18, 1997, in the national daily Ittefaq by the authorities of all the Darbars under the Enayetpur Darbar Sharif. The Sonargaon Darbar later established itself as the World Mujaddidiyya Center. Under his leadership, the enormous gathering of the Darbar’s annual holy Ors Sharif (annual congregation) began, which continued consistently despite overcoming various adversities and obstacles. - 2. This title later became the reason for his greatest recognition and fame, spreading all over the world, especially in Saudi Arabia. - 3. Honorary Doctorate:
